Part of the event is marking and championing the Social Impact Award winners 2021 – the long listing and short listing process was incredibly tough with a strong range of entries from socially engaged businesses. There were even ties in the public voting for who should win! This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all the hard work these entrepreneurs have put in and a testament of ingenuity and innovation that can happen when entrepreneurship combines with social action.
The winners of the Social Impact Award are:
Amy Clunes – Whozamy wants to give women a wider range of sizes to choose from, as well as making the clothing from organically certified recycled materials.
Farzaneh Hajirasouliha – Vivid Future plans to design interactive workshops to be delivered in secondary schools and colleges.
Ian Brown – Chestnut Natural Capital focuses on removing single-use plastics and herbicides from the world of tree planting and maintenance.
Tara Johnson – Tailored Leisure aims to give people with a disability better access to fitness and short breaks.
Laura Hepburn – Greenology turn plastic into power and make waste a valuable resource in the green world.
The Social Impact category is part of the wider Start-up Awards North East. The awards aim to celebrate and connect ambitious, early-stage founders to services, mentors, funding, new customers and peers. The North East has one of the lowest business start-up rates in the country and so it is important to celebrate businesses that not only take that FIRST step on their startup journey, but also the businesses that are trying to make a difference by making sure that what their business does is as positive as it can be for the business owners, their teams, society and the environment.
At FIRST, we are committed to supporting start-ups at each stage of their journey and through partnership working want to encourage more social impact businesses and help them make their mark in the region and beyond.
FIRST’s chair and co-founder, Caroline Theobald CBE will be running a panel discussion with the Start-up Awards North East social impact category winners to help raise their profile. Through discussion we will also find out how their businesses are making a social impact in the North East region.
Managing Director and co-founder of FIRST Charlotte Windebank will be discussing the importance of social impact businesses.
Following the presentations there will be a chance for event-attendees to look around the farm or take part in facilitated networking where we’ll make sure that people extend their network by making mutually beneficial introductions.
We would love to see familiar and new faces at the event which promises to be a fun and important night for start-ups, sustainability and the importance of business ethics in the North East.
You can join us by securing your FREE TICKET HERE and we look forward to welcoming you to Ouseburn Farm.
